There’s always something magical about returning to the place you got married. I got to do that this past September for a really special couple and return to the Detroit Beer Company for a wedding. Josh and I got married right there, overlooking the skyline on the third floor. Kara is a friend from high school and I was so glad that she asked me to photograph her and Andy’s special day. The pair just moved back to the area from Denver, Colorado and what a welcome home to celebrate a Detroit Beer Company wedding.
The ceremony took place at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Farmington, a gorgeous historic spot just down the street from where Josh used to live. After saying their vows in a simple ceremony, complete with ring warming, Kara and Andy recessed down the aisle in their style, to “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness.
Then we headed to downtown Detroit for portraits. What a fun bridal party! We stopped at Milliken State Park for a view of the RenCen (Andy’s only request of me) and then ended at the Belt Z lot where we were treated to a beautiful sunset (my favorite spot for them in the city). Then it was time to head to the Detroit Beer Company for the reception, where we were treated to some beautiful speeches, fun dancing, and a two-step performance by Andy and his mom.
As evidenced by their downtown Detroit engagement session, Kara and Andy are adorable together. I have great memories of Kara from high school (we were in marching band together), so it was so sweet to get to know Andy and see why they fit so well together. I am so lucky to reconnect with people from the past (I love it!) and it was so special to revisit the Detroit Beer Company.
From the bride: “Madalyn is a total professional. She made sure to contact us every step of the way to get a shot list of must have photos and to set up a timeline of how we wanted the day to go. She was wonderful and made our day stress free.“
